Haweswater Aqueduct update August 2020

Please see this document from United Utilities about the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme website to see the consultation documents about the major civil engineering project which will affect part of the parish from 2021 to 2024.

Japanese Knotweed eradication

24th July 2020:
Japanese Knotweed is an extremely invasive weed which can destroy roads, buildings, etc. and its removal is a legal requirement. Patches of it have been found and killed over the years but new ones have been found recently. The plants will be sprayed over the next few weeks, and the licensed contractor wants to know whether there are any more patches. Anyone who knows of any in either parish should contact the Parish Clerk (nhpclerk@gmail.com)  to let him know exactly where the patch is. Japanese Knotweed should not be confused with Himalayan Balsam which has a pink flower. That weed is being strimmed along becks by South Cumbria Rivers Trust and does not need to be reported to the Parish Clerk.

Road and Footpath Closures

I have been asked by United Utilities to remind everyone that several footpaths and Fairthorns Lane are closed to walkers, cyclists and vehicles. It is an offence to disregard the closure notices. CCTV cameras are in operation to record trespassers all day and night in order to maintain safety.
